How it works (young athletes only)
The league operates a handicap system whereby runners in the Slow Pack start before those in the Fast Pack. All new athletes start in the Slow Pack. Athletes (except U20 / U17 Women) finishing in the top 20% of the slow pack will be promoted to the fast pack, Under 20 / Under 17 Women Slow Pack runners finishing in the top 20% of the field are immediately promoted to the Medium Pack. Fuller details are on the rules page of the website.
The 27 October fixture is the Sherman Cup and Davison Shield event. The handicap system does not operate. The trophies are awarded for overall club performance so a big turnout is essential – please make every effort to compete.
There are under 11s races at each of the fixtures. They are not part of the league so are not handicapped. Athletes must be at least 9 years old on the day of the race.
Runners who have competed recently for the club will be entered.
If you are unsure, or want to confirm your entry, please let me know by 15 September if you would like to be entered, particularly if you intend to run at Wrekenton on 29 September. The entries re-open between fixtures. If you are already on the system you can check your starting pack on www.harrierleague.com
Numbers will be distributed at the club tent before the races at Wrekenton on 29 September (please bring safety pins).
• Keep your number for the whole season
• Wear your club vest
• Arrive at the venue in good time, at least 1 hour before your race – parking areas are usually very busy
• Check www.harrierleague.com before each fixture for location maps and other news
