I normally start with young athletes but on this occasion I’m beginning with our Senior ladies.

It was all to play for & all the hard work they have put in this season could easily have come undone as it was resting on this fixture. With North Shields hot on our heels meant we needed 3rd place or better to win Div 1.  As it turned out we were 5th on the day but thanks to Sunderland Strollers meant NSP were pushed into 2nd place so we had equal points but with Gateshead having won 3 out the 6 fixtures we WON on the countback.

A HUGE thanks to ALL our athletes over the series & on the day we had 16 athletes out with Faye Buckton, Lisa Atkinson & Freda Summerfield being our 3 counters. So another Shield to add to the Trophy Cabinet…well done & thanks to EVERYONE who contributed throughout the season…I’ll say it again…it’s a whole team effort!
In the U20/U17 race we only had Aoiffe Smith competing who finished in 21st place.  However, our U15’s & U13’s were brilliant once again….Roisin Smith & Emma Dixon were 1st & 3rd in the U15 girls & backed up by Charlotte Morris,Lucy Cottee & Eleanor Fletcher saw them finish in 2nd Team place.

A better result though came from the U13’s who were the 1st Team on the day having 9 athletes out with Megan Cottee
leading the charge is 1st place.

We mustn’t forget our U11’s boys & girls…so Gateshead had 12 young athletes taking part with Etham McGlen taking 2nd spot,Natasha Stephenson 5th & Harry Morris in 6th.

What a way to end a terrific & exciting XC season!.  Massive thanks & well done to all.

Mike

Mens:

A big thanks to the senior men who turned out today at Wrekenton. Superb runs from our six counters Martin Slater, John Gibson, Kevin Connolly, Barry Maskell, Kieran Flannery and Richard Craven, with superb back up from our non-counters forcing our Div 1 opposition further back. Your efforts helped secure our place in the top flight for another season.
How about a battle at the right end of the table next season, lads?
