With the course already muddy before the start, incessant rain meant that the young athletes faced a stern test in the national cross country relays. As ever the standard was very high but the club came away with several encouraging team and individual performances.

In only his second cross country race for the club, Theo Dragoi got the under 13 Boys off to a tremendous start, coming in 7th. Matthew Das and William Wells held on well to enable the team to finish a fine 13th.

The under 13 Girls also had a strong performance. Despite a lack of recent racing, Aoife Bell was 24th on the first leg. She was followed by Millie Watson and Annabel Milburn who combined to bring the team home in 25th.

The young under 15 Boys team of Ben Asquith, Oliver Ezeoke and Cassius Dornan were up against tough competition but did well to finish 79th. Jessica Milburn was 31st on the first leg for the under 15 Girls. Lucy Oliver and Jessica Ord found it tough going but persevered so that the team finished 62nd

By his own high standards, David Race was below form on the first leg of the under 17 Boys but new recruit Charlie Daley and Ethan McGlen brought them up to 13th. Charlie and Ethan were both in the fastest 10 runners on their legs.

In the incomplete teams, Ines Curran had an excellent run coming in 2nd on the first leg of the under 17 Women. Chloe Wellings also ran well, finishing 15th on the first leg of the under 20 Women.

Well done to all the young athletes who competed in such difficult conditions. Thanks to everybody who helped with organising the teams, supporting the runners and in erecting and putting away the tent.   Thanks also to all the race officials who ensured another successful event despite the weather.
