From Dirt Track to Glory was published in 1976 and written by Stan Long and Andrew Merrill.
Stan Long was an exceptionally talented coach dedicating decades of his life to coaching Gateshead Harriers endurance athletes among others.
When Stan passed away, Gateshead Harriers Annual Tartan Games hosted the inaugural ‘Stan Long Mile’ which continues annually as part of the North East Track League.

The book follows the club from it’s early beginnings in 1904 up to the beginning of the club making a huge impact on the National Endurance scene in the 70’s and has biographies on many of the club’s big personalities and International superstars of the time.

…look out for our then 18year old very young and long haired Chair making several appearances!

Fantastic to see this! Thank you so much. Very proud that my Grandad gets a mention under the Walking Section on page 9 – C.Paul. Lovely to see his great-grand daughter is following in his footsteps with the club.
