It was good to see the Gateshead vest at the British Championships over the weekend. Congratulations to Niall Flannery (coach Matt Elias) running well to finish 1st in his heat to reach the final. Positioned well off 300m he lost his rhythm and jogged over the line to finish 7th. Sophie Littlemore (coach Nick Ridgeon) doubled up finishing in 7th place in the Shot Putt and 9th position in the Discus in a very strong field. Lucy Turner (coach Sam Stanislaus) kept her head well in the hurdles when a faller in the next lane might have put off a less focussed athlete. Meanwhile our younger U20 athletes Amelia Bateman (HJ) (coach Emily Vince) and Jasmine Moss (200m) (coach Bruce Horsburgh) performed well on the day setting a pb and sb in their respective events. This will set them up well as they move into the Senior ranks over the next few years.
