The highlight of the North Eastern Championships on 14th December at Temple Park was Calum Johnson’s excellent re-gaining of his senior men’s title.  He  led the senior men to 2nd place in the team race; the u17/20 women were also 2nd while the u15 girls were 3rd.

The senior men were 4th in the Birtley Relays ( Matthew Linsley 4th fastest leg) that incorporated the NE Championships and they were 2nd in the NE Masters Championships. also in the same race  There was a more encouraging turnout by our senior women with 3 teams finishing.  Jessica Milburn was the fastest u20 runner and 9th fastest overall.  Angela Kirtley was 2nd fastest o/60.

Unfortunately the Durham schools was called off because of the weather conditions.  Several of our young athletes were due to compete.  We don’t know whether it will be re-arranged or, if not, how the team for the English Schools will be selected. The Northumberland County Schools is on 21st January at Temple Park and the Northern inter Counties Schools is on 8th February in Middlesbrough

The Northern 12 stage Relays and the Junior 5k are at Redcar on 30th March so the usual travel requirements shouldn’t be a deterrent to turning out ; entries close 21st March.
