As many of you will know, UK Athletics is conducting a consultation on the possible equalisation of distances for men and women (under 17 and above) in cross country competition. Further details are on

https://www.uka.org.uk/news/news-and-features/statement-by-uk-athletics-and-the-hcafs-regarding-equal-access-to-cross-country-competition-distances/

England Athletics registered athletes were emailed a questionnaire on 5 January which is to be completed by 29 January.

If you didn’t receive the email, you can ask for a copy or submit your views by contacting domesticcompetition@uka.org.uk

Please complete the questionnaire so that as many views as possible are received.

The consultation has generated strong opinions both for and against any changes and whether those changes should apply to all levels of the sport (see, for instance, the discussion on the North East Harrier League’s Facebook page.)

The English Cross Country Association has issued a statement on

https://www.englishcrosscountry.co.uk/news/xc-equalisation-of-distances-statement-from-the-ecca-and-3-areas/

The club has also received a survey request from Northern Athletics which has expressed its concerns about the consultation

https://www.northernathletics.co.uk/2021/01/10/cross-country-consultation-northern-athletics-statement/

The Northern Athletics survey will be discussed at the club committee meeting on 8 February.

Some background is explained on https://athleticsweekly.com/featured/uka-reopens-cross-country-distance-debate-1039938770/

It would be helpful if members could also submit their views to office@gatesheadharriers.com to inform discussion at committee meetings.
