Congratulations to Emily Gargan (coached by Sam Stanislaus) and Jason Nicholson (coached by Janice Kaufman) who have been selected by British Athletics to represent GB at the European U20 Championships in Grosseto from 20th – 23rd July.
Emily made sure of selection early by finishing in the top 2 at the trials well inside the qualifying distance. This despite studying hard for her exams.
Despite being ill at the trails Jason was given a 2nd opportunity to quality having already achieved the qualifying time at the Loughborough International. Having won bronze at the European Youth Championships last season, he already has international experience, and won silver at the English Schools Championships last weekend, edged out by 0.02 of a second by the already selected Cameron Fillery.
They are both delighted by their selection and we wish them well. Obviously they would rather have been competing at the Upper YDL in Middlesbrough next weekend but duty calls.
