Dear Club Secretary, Official, Competitor, Supporter
On behalf of the NEHL XC Committee I am writing to congratulate all clubs on the excellent start to the 2103/14 XC Season. Apart from the high numbers of registrations, you will have seen the fantastic increase in competitors at the first two fixtures. Every category has shown an increase in the numbers taking part, and this is a great achievement for everyone involved in our League. The Committee are constantly looking at ways to ensure the continued success of the league fixtures and particularly the enjoyment and safety of competitors, officials and supporters at each fixture.
In moving to the online registration system, the Committee believed that the easier access of information would help clubs and competitors have timely and accurate information, particularly in relation to the packs. It was anticipated that where errors had been made in the allocation of the Pack, this would be identified by either the competitor themselves or by their Club. In a number of cases this has worked without a problem. A significant number of competitors in all categories did either not run from the correct pack or were unsure of the pack they needed to run from. A number of them have declared that they have ran from the wrong pack and this has now been corrected and times corrected, and have been advised what pack they will run from for the next fixture.
The Committee believe now the information is widely available, Competitors and Clubs now have a firm responsibility to check that the packs listed for every runner is correct and that the runner knows which pack they should run from. If the club or competitor identify that the pack is wrong and needs to be corrected this will be done and the competitor will run from the stated pack at the next fixture. In order for this to be achieved, I would kindly request that you review the lists of competitors at www.harrierleague.com to check that they are (a) listed in the correct pack and (b) understand that this is the pack that they are expected to run from at the next fixture, unless the League are advised that the Pack needs to be changed. The Committee have agreed that without exception the automatic disqualification rule will be applied for all subsequent fixtures where a competitor runs from the wrong pack. I would urge to let us know any changes by lunchtime on Thursday 21st November 2013 in order for the system to be updated. No changes will be made after this date and competitors will then be expected to run from the pack as shown on your club list. I hope you will agree this to be a fair and equitable way to manage this process at the start of the season and to assist the League in developing and promoting competitive fixture for all competitors.
Please can I urge you to request the assistance of you and your fellow club members to spend five minutes to check the website to understand what pack you and your fellow competitors should be running from at the next fixture.
We have also agreed with our President (and Chief Referee) that we will increase the pack promotions – 40 men from the slow pack to medium pack and first 25 medium pack promoted to fast pack. For the ladies promote first 30 and mediums in first 20 to fast.
The email is being distributed as widely as possible to a number of distribution lists. I apologise if you receive more than one copy of the email.
Thank you for your support.
Yours in Sport
