A very busy weekend for our Endurance Athletes started with the National Road Relay Championships which were held at Sutton Park – Birmingham, the club had teams in the U/15 Boys and U/17 Men along with our Senior Mens team.   These Championships attract the best in the country and 2017 was no different.

Our U/15 Boys team went into the Race buoyed with the fact that they finish 2nd in the Northern Championships they certainly performed tremendously well by finishing in 6th position, David Race, Harry Morris and Ethan McGlen all contributing to a great achievement, well done all and especially Ethan McGlen who ran the 3rd fastest time of the day.

Our U/17 Men have great potential but are on a learning curve and these Championships would give them valuable experience and an insight into what level they need to be aiming for. The team consisting of Charlie McMillan, James Morris and Alex Armstrong finished in 38th position and with approx. 80 teams starting it was a solid acheivement, they were 12th Northern team which consolidated their Northern Championship position 2 weeks earlier.

The Senior Men’s Team had a balance of youth and experience, with Lewis Moses on lead leg running really well to hand over to Chris Parr in 4th position who continued the solid start coming home in 6th place. We had our two young athletes running on legs 3 & 4 those being James Cripwell and Jed Marshall who would gain valuable experience at this level and both ran solidly, with stalwarts Martin Slater and Kevin Connolly running legs 5 & 6. The club more than consolidated their position from the Northern Championships by finishing 12th Northern club and they finished 34th overall with almost 90 teams toeing the line.

Thanks must be given to the parents who travelled to Birmingham and supported our young Athletes along with those club officials who made the trip, a good day.
