The weather of continuous Rain and Snow, made the under foot conditions very difficult, but that did not deter our Female and Male X-country runners who turned out in their numbers throughout all the age group races in the above Championships.

Ethan McGlen running in the U/13 Boys Championship got the club off to a great start by picking up the individual Silver Medal, this is only Ethan’s first year in this age group so he has another year left to go for Gold next year, a great run.

It was good to see our U/15 Boys turning out in force and they were rewarded with placing 3rd Team, the 3 counters being James Morris (12th) Sam Ashcroft (15th) and Oscar Birney (29th) a very pleasing performance, this age group can only get better.

Although we only had the 3 runners in the U/17 Men’s race, they also ran extremely well as they were last race had the worst of the under foot conditions, but Aleck Haddon (10th), Mathew Wakefield (16th) and Joe Kirk (20th) just missed out on the Bronze team medal, but finished a very creditable 4th Team.

Our U/20 Mens team had real strength in depth and they had there own battles within the race which really benefitted and consolidated our hold on this Trophy which we have won now for the past few years. The team was led home with a tremendous run by James Cripwell in first place (North East Champion) and he was backed up by Greg Chambers (5th) Luke Clark (6th) who were the winning team, with Jed Marshall (8th) in close contention.

The Senior Men were determined to make amends from last year when they slipped out of the team medals, over the 12k course they certainly competed tremendously well by packing there 6 counters in the first 38 runners, this was enough to give then Silver Medals in the team race. The 6 counters being Simeon Greenwood (10th), Marc Elliott (12th), Conrad Franks (14th), David Old (29th) Rob Dobson (34th) & Ross Christie (38th) with also a really good turn out of senior men as back up.

Our Ladies section certanly had a good day as well also winning Individual and Team honours, and again as in the Boys the U/13 Girls had Individual Bronze medal winner with Ines Curran, which was a great run.

The U/15 Girls dominated their race with Grace Varley in 2nd place and Isobel Chaudrey in 3rd place, so with Allanah Brown in 12th position they were very comfortable winners of the Team Race.

The U/17 & U/20 Ladies was a combined race with seperate individual results, with Ellie Mahon taking the Bronze Medal in the U/17 age group whilst the team just missing out on medals by finishing 4th, the other counters were Elisha Tait (12) and Emma Dixon (27th)

With the Senior Ladies being one of the later races the conditions were getting worse but they rose to the occasion and battled through the mud to come away with Bronze Team medals only missing out on silver medals by 2 points, like in the senior men the Ladies had a great turnout in numbers, with the three team counters being Mary Ferrier (10th), Faye Buckton (19th), Paula Burrows (21st).

So overall the Club had a good day so well done to all who ran and to those who came to support.
