This virtually flat course proved a lot more difficult than first thought, with the recent cold weather making the ground very hard along with the uneven grassy surface, made for fast but energy sapping efforts from our Athletes.

The Senior Men’s race was ran over 12k (3 x 4k laps) and as expected the runners set off on a blistering pace and the field soon spread out, with Calum Johnson in the mix at the front of the field challenging for a top 3 placing, he finished very strongly on the 3rd lap to claim a very creditable individual Silver Medal. We had the consistent and reliable Conrad Franks finishing in 9th position which was a great performance. The Team just missed out on medals as well (finishing 4th) with Kevin Connelly (36th) Ross Christie (46th) Steven (48th) and Mathew Linsley (60th) running his first ever Championship closing the team counters, from a field of over 300 runners.

Our Senior Women had a long wait for there race which was 8k (2 x 4k laps).   As in the Men’s race it was a fast start which spread the field out very early into the race, with Kim Simpson battling through the field, finishing a very creditable 15th position, she was backed up by Jane Giles (26th) Liz Raven (28th) and Lisa Atkinson (68th) closing the team who finished in 7th place.

The overall day was very encouraging for the club with Individual and Team successes, we are slowly building from our grass roots and progressing forward and that is work in progress and we would like to think it is a step in the right direction. Thank you to all the runners who took part along with the support of their parents, also a big thanks to our coaches and officials on the day, which created a warm and friendly atmosphere on a very cold day.
