The club fielded 4 full teams and 2 part teams in the Northern Cross Country Relays held at Graves Park, Sheffield on 21 October.

Competition was of a high standard in all races. Runners had to face the gusting wind at the start then cope with a tough, hilly course.

The programme started with the under 17s race. The womens team of Chloe Welling (10th), Jasmine Crang (14th) and Amy Baker finished 12th.  All of these runners are in the first year of their age group so this was a very encouraging result.

The under 17s mens team continued to improve in finishing 11th, with Alex Armstrong on the first leg coming in 18th followed by James Morris in 12th and Charlie McMillan picking up one more place. On the first leg Will Dixon, did well to come in 20th .

Our under 13 boys team finished a creditable 20th. Oliver Ezeoke came in 31st, Ben Asquith picked up 7 places to 24th then Noah Curran pulled in a further 4 runners on the last leg. Oliver and Noah have moved up to the under 13s this season while this was Ben’s 3rd race for the club.

In the under 15 girls, Ines Curran, also in the first year of her age group, ran very well to finish 4th on the first leg. Ines was 5th fastest overall. Unfortunately we didn’t have a complete team in this age group, something the club must try to rectify.

Our under 15 Boys were disappointed with their 12th position following their recent road relay performances. It was a strong field and they are still quite inexperienced so they should not be discouraged. Harry Morris was 19th on the first leg, followed by David Race in 16th with Ethan McGlen picking up 4 more places on the 3rd leg.

Well done to all of the club’s runners. There were several promising performances and all will have gained valuable experience from competing in these relays.

Thanks to all parents and coaches who came and supported the teams and to everybody who helped in dismantling the tent before it blew away!
