Well done to all those who competed at the Northern XC  this weekend.

The above Championships were held at Knowsley Safari Park (same venue as last year) and instead of 6 inches of snow like last year the
runners had to contend with wind, rain, cold and muddy conditions, but that,s what X-country racing is all about.

The club were represented in 3 of the Male races (alot of our younger athletes being involved in schools races), James Cripwell who ran in the U/17 Champ. unfortunately lost one of his spikes in the mud early in the race. Taking that into considering his 18th position was a gutsy
and exceptional run, he was also the first North East runner to finish beating the present North Eastern Champion.

The U/20 Men were defending there Title that they won in 2013 and they duly obliged with a great performance coming away with the Team Gold Medals. After finishing 2nd last year Calum Johnson went one better this year dominating the race and coming home as Northern Champion,
he was backed by Simeon Greenwood 13th, Barry Maskell 16th and Dan Johnson 19th, with Greg Chambers pushing them all the way, being an
important member of our future U/20,s Team.

There were 4 Senior Men who braved the conditions late in the afternoon as by then the course was well churned up, but Steven Medd, Dara Chesser, Sam Brand and Paul Attley all battled there way around the course and perform well.

The Male section now looks forward to the Signals Road Relay (North East Championships) 15th February and then onto the National X-country Championships @ Nottingham on the 22nd February.

Cheers,

John
