Cross Country

The North East Harrier League got underway on 26 September with the first fixture at Thornley Hall Farm.  While the weather was good, the course was as challenging as ever with the runners having to negotiate steep hills and rutted ground.  The club had 2 winners: new recruit Steve Rankin in the Senior Mens race and Celia de Lucas in the under 14 Girls. Other first 10 finishes included James Cathey, 4th in the under 18 Men, and Scott Capewell, 2nd in the senior Men.

The 2nd fixture at Eltringham Farm on 10 October was held in gale force conditions making the challenge of running on a tough course even more demanding.  Our u12 girls were not deterred with Aurora Ryles in 13th place leading home Evie Pentland, Belle Wickam,Madison Williams, Lily Reynolds, Amelie Robson, Lily Rose Farrell and Emilia Williams.  The girls now stand 3rd in the overall league. In the under 12 Boys, our only runner, Jack Emerson did well to finish 34th

In the under 14 girls Celia de Lucas ran from the fast pack to finish 12th consolidating her leading position on the overall Grand Prix.  Emily Hirst is also doing well in this age group, finishing 15th and lying 11th in the Grand Prix.

In the under 14 Boys, Logan Garrington was hoping to follow up on his recent good form but a trip over a tree root resulted in him retiring hurt.  Elliot Hearn did very well to finish in an encouraging 71st position.

In the under 16 Boys, Fergus Jarvis was an excellent 4th. The under 16 Girls are currently 4th in their league and have been led home in both fixtures by Isabella Linsley, who is enjoying her first season of cross country running, finishing 14th at Eltringham with Lucy Jarvis 22nd and Lauren Smith 29th. Emily Foster was 26th at Thornley and the girls currently are 10th in their league.

Joseph Johnson finished the under 18 Men’s race strongly in 4th  while Danny Begg also did well to finish 22nd.  Danny is 14th overall in the Grand Prix

The senior men’s team now stand in 4th position in the league. Steve Rankin followed up his win at Thornley with a 6th position at Eltringham, followed by Conrad Franks, Dan Alexander, Abdullah Harrerimana and Cole Reid.  Having placed first in the team race at Thornley, the senior men lie fourth in the league competition.  In the individual standings, Cole is currently in 17th position while Steve is 3rd in the highly competitive over 35s with Dan in 4th position.

The senior women are aiming for promotion from Division 3 of their league and currently are 4th. Recently transferred Caire Cook was first home at Eltringham followed by Harriet Thompson, Philippa Cole and Leanne Parkin.

With 4 league fixtures remaining, these results show that there is still a lot to compete for in both the individual and league competitions. Athletes who want to run but are not registered yet for the league should contact their team managers as soon as possible Following the cancellation of the fixture at Lambton the next fixture is at Wrekenton on 28 November.  If you want to be entered for the rest of the season, you should inform your team manager.
