So this re-arranged North Eastern Championship has started the Road & X-country season a little earlier this year, the club were represented in both the Men & Women’s races.

The first Race was the Women plus the O/50 Men’s combined, Chloe Wellings continued her great form of late on the first by leaving most of the men in her wake, coming home in first place with one of the fastest ladies times of the day, Beth Curran took over on 2nd leg and ran well keeping the team in contention. Jane Giles who was making her comeback after a long time out with injury ran well on the 3rd leg to maintain the team’s position, with the Team Manager and Captain Lisa Atkinson giving it her all on last leg just missing out on Championship medals in 4th position.

Incorporated in this Race was the O/50’s Men and it was good to see the club have a team represented with Malcolm Thirlaway, John McConnell, Dave Leng and Bob Stobbs flying the Gateshead flag in this age group, performing well.

Our Senior Men’s “A” Team had a great battle all the way through their 6 legs always hovering around the top 3 medal positions with Ali Bailey on leg 1,  and 15 year old Ethan McGlen (leg 2) putting the team in a strong position. Charlie McMillan and Senior Men’s captain Steven Medd continued to push the team on.   It was great to see David Old back in the thick of things holding his own on 5th leg, with the ever reliable Steven Asquith on the final leg battling through and just missing out on the 3rd place Championship Medals.  The club also managed to field a “B” Team consisting of Peter Grimoldby, Steven Wellings, Phil. McKeown, Simon Findlay, Chris Paton & Martin Slater performing really well and finishing in a very creditable 16th position.
