*Updated with mens report and overall winners*

The North Eastern X-Country Championships were held at Temple Park, South Shields, on Saturday 14th December.

Although it was cold and very windy the conditions were reasonably firm underfoot with the male section of the club being well represented in all age groups.

The U/13 Boys really turned out in force and got the club off to a very good start finishing 4th team with the counters being William Dixon, James Morris and Joe Halpin, but they were well backed up by Harvey Mahon, Jack Trainor, Thomas Pascal, Charlie McMillan and Daniel Brewer.

The U/15 Boys were next to race and also kept the club colours flying by finishing 5th team, the athletes running were Joe Kirk, Mathew Wakefield, James Chaudry and Oliver Dolimore.

Although our U/20,s team was hit by illness and injuries such is the strength in this section that we came away with winners medals with Dan Johnson finishing in 2nd place which was a tremendous run.  Dan was backed by Luke Clark, Robbie Lorraine and Johnny Duggan to come away with the gold medals.

Our Senior and Vets Men raced next over a distance of 12k and they really turned out in force with 19 runners toeing the line in the biggest field of the day.  They truly came up with the goods as well by finishing a very creditable 2nd team, the counters being Marc Elliott, Conrad Franks, Luke Adams, Sam Brand, Dean Crangle and Kevin Connelly.

The final race of the day was the  U/17 Men’s race and they too came away with 2nd team medals in a closely fought race, the counters being Joe Armstrong, James Cripwell and Jed Marshall, they too were well backed up by Chris Robinson, Callum Simpson and Joe Kirkley.

So it was a very successful day for the club and, although not confirmed yet, we must be in line to win the overall Team Trophy, which goes to the club with the best team performances in all the male age groups.

The support on the day was great which really helped to vreate a great atmosphere.

To add to the above success Calum Johnson has been selected to represent England in an International X-Country Race in Belgium on the weekend of the 21st/22nd December, I,m sure we all wish him well.

Women’s Report from Mike Dawson:

Our Female athletes did really well (as did the guys!).

The U13 Girls came out in 1st Team place with Isobel Choudry, Grace Varley & Jane Brown leading the
charge. We had 5 runners in the 1st 11 places but actually had 10 athletes running on the day…great!

This was closely followed by the U15girls who also secured the 1st Team honours headed up by
Ellie Mahon, Lucy Cottee & Sarah Brown but again well supported with a total of 8 athletes running.

Next it was the turn of the Juniors (U20/17) & from the 5 athletes we managed to secure 2nd Team
place, with Elizabeth Mooney taking the U20 top slot & Trophy but well done to all who ran.

It was then the turn of the Sen/Vet ladies & we started with 14 athletes….like the guys we had a few
illnesses and it could easily have been 20!  So on a very cold & windy day we finished in 5th place with
Isabella Murray (12th), Mary Ferrier (19th) & Lisa Atkinson(31st) being our first 3 counters.
However, a big thankyou to everyone who turned out…it is still a whole team effort!
