Well a couple of weekends actually. Let’s start with the U13/U15 and U17 Northern Championships held at Middlesbrough Sports Village. Whilst sunny, both days were quite cold with tricky wind conditions making the technical events difficult. However the athletes competed well and the Gateshead vest appeared quite a lot on the podium.
Under 17
- Jason Nicholson took gold in both the 400m Hurdles and the 100m Hurdles, repeating his success from the previous year
- Elliot Birss took the bronze in the 400m Hurdles
- Elliot also made the final of the 100m, finishing a credible 7th place
- Jessica Scott moved up an age group to compete in the 300m, running 44.14
- Alisha Tait finished 7th in the 800m.
Under 15
- Amelia Bateman took gold in the high jump, despite nursing a sore ankle
- Alisha Lamb took 11th place in the Hammer
- Emma Scarborough narrowly missed out on a top 8 finish in the long jump (by 1cm) and finished 7th in the final of the 75m Hurdles
- Macey Bradshaw got a tough heat in the 100m, finishing just outside the qualifiers
Under 13
- Josh McKeown took double gold in the 100m and 200m, running a pb of 12.68 in the 100m
- Charlotte Richardson took double silver in the 100m and 200m – this despite managing an injury
- Lucy Giles had a busy day qualifying for the final on the 100m, where she came 6th. Running 5th in the 800m and also competing in the javelin
- Joy Eze also qualified for the 100m final, finishing just outside the medals in 4th place
- Hannah Scarborough competed in the long jump, qualifying top 8 to take 3 further attempts and finishing an overall 5th
At this weekends Scottish Championships Natasha Stephenson had a busy day finishing in silver place in the 800m with a pb of 2.24.32, before then going through heats, semis and finals in the 200m where she again took the silver medal.
Meanwhile at the Inter-County championships in Blackburn Gateshead athletes played their part in helping the North East to an overall 2nd position. Those competing were: Emma Scarborough, Plamedi Mukendi, Isolbel Chaudry, James Chaudry, Joe Halpin, Sam Bradley and Cory Watson. Special mention to Joe Halpin who broke Liam Collins long standing U15b 80mH record with a time of 11.18.
