On Sunday 7th April the Blyth Valley 10k Road Race took place, but this year it incorporated the British Masters 10k Championship and a number of our Senior Female & Male athletes competed with great success.

Pride of place must go to one of the clubs unsung heroine Maggie Loraine who has been a great servant to the club over many years, Maggie came away with a British Masters Age Title, a GOLD MEDAL in her age group, tremendous performance.

After travelling to Birmingham, racing and travelling back on the saturday Conrad Franks toed the line in Mens 10k Race, as always he gives 100% and he finished 6th overall in the race but most importantly he came away with a British Masters Championship Silver Medal in the O/35 age category, really well deserved as Conrad has been and is a great servant to the club as well.

Just missing out on her age group Medal and finishing in 4th position was Jane Giles who has had a tremendously consistant successful season, this being another great performance in a British Championship, would have been nice to finish off with a medal.

Another age group 4th position went to Steven Medd in the O/40 category, having battled to get into 3rd place right up until the final 200m just missing out on the sprint to the line, but fantastic achievements, from everyone.

So a busy weekend and competing in National & British Championships is where Gateshead Harriers athletes belong, but to maintain that we need the structure and progression of athletes and attract Endurance athletes to the club. So well done to our coaches and officials who supported the athletes over a busy but successful weekend.

We now move onto the final Relay of the season which is the Elswick Road Relay on Good Friday lets have a good turn out for both Female & Male races and look for more success.
