It was a big win for Calum Johnson on Sunday with a time of 63:44 debuting over the half marathon distance at the Chester elite half marathon. The National XC Champion and former Sport Newcastle Scholar recorded the second fastest time in the U.K. this year and is 38 seconds behind Mo Farah. This continues his fine start to the season following his run outs over 5k on the road and helping the Gateshead team to victory in the recent North Eastern Cross Country relays.

It was unknown territory for me, I sat with the pacemakers (who did a cracking job) for the first 5 mile at around 1.05 pace and decided to go solo for the last 8 miles. I had no idea that 63 mins would be within reach, but I found a good rhythm and ticked the miles off, closing the last 10km in around 29.30. Couldn’t have asked for much more yesterday and it’s always nice to know that the training the work put in each day is working nicely. ⁣
