The club’s young athletes completed the harrier league season in good style with 25 runners contesting the final set of races at Alnwick.
Our only runner in the under 11 girls was Skye Marshall who returned another good performance in 23rd position. We had a good turnout in the boys with Matthew Waters in 15th leading Alfie Cook, Samson Oliver, Tristan Crang and Connor Barrett home. Well done to Connor, racing cross country for the first time since turning nine.
Our under 13 girls were hoping to dislodge Durham City Harriers from first place but to no avail despite fine runs from Jessica Milburn in 8th, Anya Crowder, 15th and Annabel Milburn 19th backed up by Millie Watson, Lucy Oliver and Jessica Barrett.
The girls team finished 2nd overall. Jessica, Anya, Annabel and Aoife Bell all finished in the first 10 in the Grand Prix.
We had a big turnout in the under 13 boys with Noah Curran finishing 15th, followed by William Wells, 18th and Matthew Das 26th, to give them 6th team place on the day. They were followed in by Ben Asquith, Oliver Ezeoke, Luca Shaw, Cassius Dornan and Sonny Lewins., all running from the fast pack.
The under 13 boys finished a creditable 3rd overall. Ben Asquith in 12th was the highest placed in the individual Grand Prix.
With major races in the next few weeks, turnout in the older age groups was reduced.
In the under 15 girls, Jessica Ord was the first finisher in 32nd running from the fast pack, followed by Freja Bell doing well in 36th. Our only runner in the under 15 boys was Will Seager Rooke with another strong run from the fast pack in 27th place.
Congratulations to Ines Curran who won the under 15 girls Grand Prix for the second year running. Rosie Hughes was next highest finisher in 12th and the girls were 4th in the team standings.
Amy Baker ran through to 8th in the under 17/ 20 women’s race with Jasmine Crang 23rd. Jasmine was highest placed in the Grand Prix in 20th position.
Well done to everybody who has turned out in the league this season. The turnouts have been encouraging particularly in the younger age groups.
Thanks go to Alnwick Harriers for hosting the final event and to the league officials. Thanks to everybody who helped with transport and support for the young athletes throughout the season.
