Our young athletes, including several new faces, tackled the first fixture of the new NEHL season  at Wrekenton with their usual enthusiasm. With races being set off at 5 minute intervals, there was a hectic hour of racing with 2 or 3 races out on the course simultaneously.

In the under 11s our finishers were Samson Oliver, Angus McCloy, Tristan Crang, Tom Farrell, Cormac Muldoon and Brandon Holborn and, in the girls, Skye Marshall, Carrie Deighton and Holly Asquith – encouraging turnouts with many running cross country for the first time.

Our “year under” team of Matthew Das, William Wells and Sonny Lewins finished 4th in the under 13 boys , with Matthew an excellent 3rd individual on his club debut.  Ben Asquith, Oliver Ezeoke and Luca Shaw all ran strongly from the fast pack while new members Fiontan Muldoon and Alex Biddlecombe plus Cameron Marshall completed a big showing from the club.

We had double success in the under 13 girls with Annabel Milburn winning the individual and the team of Annabel, Aoife Bell and Lucy Oliver taking the team race.  Millie Watson, continuing to improve, was next in followed by Anya Crowder and Jessica Milburn, both running from the fast pack.  Jessica Barrett also did well in her racing debut.

In the under 15 Girls, Willow Morris was first counter in 9th position, followed by title holder Ines Curran, fastest overall, and Jessica Ord, to gain 5th in the team race.  With Freja Bell and Scarlett McMillan backing them up, it was good to see a healthier turnout in this age group.

Although disappointed, David Race was still among the fastest finishers in the under 15 boys.  Jack Garrett ran steadily to finish 32nd.

Charlie McMillan, our only runner in the under 17 men, was 7th fastest, a good start to the season. In the Under 17/20 women, Chloe Wellings also had a promising run in 10th position while Jasmine Crang found the going hard but did well to finish.

Well done to all the younger runners particularly the newer members experiencing the harrier league for the first time.

Thanks to the league and race organisers for getting the season off to a successful start.
