Another successful weekend for our “Endurance Athletes” both Female and Male in the penultimate Harrier League fixture at a muddy Thornley Hall Farm at Peterlee.

Before the the start of the Senior Ladies race the Gateshead team were top of the Division so they had everything to compete for, again they turned out in force and they did not disappoint. Jane Giles who is really running extremely well finished 11th position (running from the fast pack) and recorded one of the fastest times of the day and first counter for the Team, a special mention must be given to Maggie Lorraine who is a stalwart and great servant to our Ladies team who finished in a tremendous 15th place. With Lucie Wilkinson and Aife McSheffrey working there way through the field, they packed well to bring the team home in 2nd position, this strengthened their place at the top of the League.

The strength in depth showed on the day with the Ladies “B” Team finishing 5th and the “C” Team in 10th place, so a very satisfying day and now all eyes are on the final fixture at Alnwick on the 2nd March. Please try and make yourself available for this fixture the team needs as many runners out as possible, so finishing top of Division 1 is within there grasp which is great credit to the Coaches and Team Managers.

The Senior Men followed the Ladies, with another big field with over 450 finishers, the majority of our seniors were running from the fast pack so they had to work hard to get through the other packs, but they did the business on the day. The Team finished in 5th place which was led by the ever consistent Conrad Franks who battled through the field and ended up in 11th place, he was backed up by the ever improving Matt Linsley who was closely followed by Dan Alexander, Steven Asquith, Steven Medd and Kevin Connolly (getting back to full fitness after illness).  This 5th Team placing consolidated the men in position in Division 1, but as with the Women we need to get as many Senior athletes out at Alnwick as possible, to maintain this or even move up the League, lets make it a great day all round on the 2nd March.

Again many thanks to all that helped on the day, to our Team Managers & Coaches, parents.

“JUST TO ADD THAT THE SIGNALS RELAY IS DEFINITELY CANCELLED, POSSIBLY TO BE RUN LATER IN THE SEASON”
