Several of the club’s runners contested the Heaton Harriers Memorial Races, held on Newcastle Town Moor, held in bitterly cold and windy weather.

Following their recent strong relay performances, the under 13 boys won the team race with Oliver Douglass a clear winner followed up by Theo Barron in 3rd and Noah Curran in 7th.

Ines Curran was an excellent winner of the under 15 girls, having led her race from the start, against some of her strong local rivals. David Race was 2nd in the under 15 boys, doing well to hold on after contesting the early lead with the eventual winner, Rowan Bennett of Elswick Harriers.

The senior 10km race was clearly won by one of the region’s top runners, Peter Newton of Morpeth Harriers. Conrad Franks judged his race well to pull away from the chasing group to take 2nd, a fine performance.

The club’s other senior finishers were Freda Summerfield, Judith Robinson Christine Baudouin, Yvonne Wilson and Simon Bauouin. All did well, battling against the cold wind blowing across the Town Moor.

Well done to everybody who competed in such challenging conditions and thanks to all officials and marshalls.
