Following on from our great team and individual performances in the Younger age groups our Senior Mens team proved that they can still mix it with the best in the country with a suberb team performance.

There were more than 200 runners toed the line in a highly competitive field and with this being the final race of the day the course had cut up quite alot in places.  Lewis Moses was our lead off runner and he worked his way through the field of the 2 lap course to hand over to James Cripwell in 2nd position, James grasped this opportunity with both hands, running in his first season as a Senior Man, he handled the situation like a seasoned pro. and he battled through his leg to pass onto our GB International Triathlete Calum Johnson. Calum, just starting his winter training, was just not sure how he would run, but we did not have long to wait as he worked his way through the field to 4th position, closing gaps in the process. I want to give a special mention to our final athlete in the team who was Kevin Connolly as he was brought into the team at the last minute but did a suberb job and really battled on well to bring the team home in 14th position, which was 6th Northern Team and 1st North East Team.

As I said previously we can compete successfully in these championship and hopefully there is nothing stopping us from having 2 or 3 teams competing next season. A mention must be given to Steve Asquith who ran the first leg for the “B” Team, this was Steve’s first taste of National Championship races and he finished inside the first half of the field, so well done.

The next aim for our Senior Men is the North Eastern X-country Championships on the 9th December, there is no reason why we should not do well individually and team wise, so make sure you are entered. (contact Steven Medd)

This was a really successful day for the club and to get our young runners involved and gain experience from running in major champioships which can hopefully only auger well for the future.
