The new year started with a bang with a couple of open indoor track meetings, the first Harrier League of the year and closely followed by the Northern Athletics U17, U20 and Senior Championships.   Highlights from all are below:

Open Meetings

David Race started his 2021 campaign in fine form with a fine run in the 1500m indoor Sheffield Open putting him top of the U20 rankings.   Meanwhile in Manchester Philippa Ellis went to the top of the 60m Hurdles rankings and 8th in the 60m sprints.   Matthew Lawson opened up his season with the 60m sprint.

Cross Country

Well done to all who competed in the Harrier League at Peterlee.  See separate report for details of the latest Harrier League Cross Country standings

Also congratulations to the Senior Women who competed at the Birtley Cross Country relays at the weekend – Kristen Abraham, Stacey Armstrong, Suzy Kelly, Leanne Parkin, Lisa Atkinson and Angela Kirtley.

U17/U20 and Senior Northern Indoor Championships

The club had a good turnout over the weekend at Sheffield with many of our athletes making the finals.   The 60m sprints were particularly strong with a Gateshead Harrier vest in all the age group finals.
