In windy but dry and mild conditions at Temple Park the club’s young athletes turned out in some force for the Sherman Cup and Davison Shield.

The day started with the non competition under 11s races. Our 2 girl runners Aoife Bell and Iona Johnstone both ran hard to finish 6th and 25th respectively. Our only runner in the boys race, 9 year old Tristan Crang did well to finish 55th.

We had an encouraging turnout in the under 13s races. Willow Morris ran very well to finish 3rd in the girls race, ably followed by Anya Crowder 12th, Amelia Hunter 19th, Lucy Oliver 29th, Freya Bell 33rd, Jessica Hunter 35th and Jessica Ord, in her first race, 44th.  Willow was our only first 3 finisher of the day. The team finished 3rd

In the boys under 13s, new member Theo Barron led the way in 6th with Oliver Douglass in 9th, Noah Curran 10th, Ben Asquith 30th and Oliver Ezeoke 32nd.  In his first club cross country race, Cameron Marshall also ran well to finish 73rd.  With Theo not yet scoring for the club, the team finished 3rd.

Our under 15 boys were under strength but David Race fought hard to come in 13th. Jack Garrett and Robbie Richardson, another debutant, finished 31st and 46th.  Well done to Jack and Robbie for ensuring that we finished a team in 7th place.

We only had one runner in the under 15 girls with Jamilla Nessa doing well to come in 50th in only her second cross country race.

In the under 17/20 Women’s race, Elisha Tait led our runners in a fine 5th position. She was backed up by Jessica Leslie in 12th and Amy Baker in 14th to achieve our only team victory of the day.  Nicole McIlvaney, 21st, Emma Dixon, 24th, and Jasmine Crang, 25th, completed a good overall performance in this age group.

James Morris was first counter in the under 17 Men in 7th followed by Will Dixon in 9th and Alex Armstrong in 10th.  Up against the very strong Morpeth squad, the boys continued to improve to finish 2nd in the team race. Well done to Alex for rushing back from holiday to make up the team!

Thanks to all family members, friends, coaches and club officials for supporting the athletes.
