On a fine but windy day the above Championships were held at Hetton-Lyon-Park, with the club well represented in the Female & Male races. The Ladies had 3 full Teams plus 2 full Vets teams running which is a great effort and showing strength within section, the races being combined. With some real strong opposition our Ladies “A” Team were a very creditable 5th position the team consisting of Sarah Hall, Olivia Bateman, Gillian Manford & Mary Ferrier with the “B” & “C” Teams backing up well. The ladies Vets Team consisting of Maggie Lorraine, Carol Carvanet, Jane Giles & Jacqui Walker were a very creditable 7th position within there category, so well done to those who raced and supported the Ladies on the day.
The Men also had a good turn out again with 3 full Teams and 2 Vets Teams which is good to see along with the team spirit. The “A” Team were presented with 3rd place medals and that Team was made up of Lawrence McCourt, Chris Parr (having one of the fastest times), Sean Hall, Dan Johnson, Conrad Franks & James Cripwell which was a solid performance along with the “B” Team also finishing in 10th position. A mention must be given to 3 U/17 runners who really performed well on the day, and really earned and deserved their selection into the Teams, I’m sure it was a good experience for them, they were James Morris, Alex Armstrong 7 Charlie McMillan.
Our Senior Men’s Vets Team led by David Wakefield (having his first race for the club) finished a very creditable 13th position which augers well for the future.
So overall quite a successful day for the club and good to see the numbers turning out in both races, lets hope we can maintain this and more, looking towards the Northern Relay Champ. 25th March and National Relay Champ. 8th April, please try and make yourself available and would be great for the club to see Teams running in both of these Championships.
