The popular Durham Cathedral Relays took place on Sunday 14th January with the weather conditions cold and windy but did not deter the runners.

The first Race was the Veteran Mens with Martin Slater(V40) getting the club off to a great start finishing in 5th position and handing over to Steven Asquith(V35) who maintained that position throughout the second leg with Jeremy Armstrong(V50) taking over on the final leg and battled on really well to cross the line in 9th position. The “B” Team consisting of David Herring(45) John McConnell(V45) & Malcolm Thirlaway(V60) finishing a very creditable 45th position.

The Senior and Vets Woman had 3 Teams competing with (Freda Summerfield, Maggie Lorraine, Jane Giles) the first of the teams to finish in a very good 11th position, they were followed by (Liz. Raven, Susue Raven, Jemma Bell) who crossed the line in 17th position, a little further down the field and finishing in 39th position, the team consisting of (Leanne Weling, Julie Richarson, Jacqui Walker)

The final Race of the day was the Senior Mens Relay where we disappointingly only had one Team taking part, but this team were always in the mix at the sharp end of the race and ran well to finish in 5th position, the team consisted of ever reliable Conrad Franks (6th position), Dan Johnson (6th position) and James Cripwell (5th position)

The Brass Monkey Half Marathon was also held on Sunday with Kevin Connolly 1hr-13m-52s, Steven Medd 1hr-14m-24s, Paul Waller 1hr-17m-40s, Kim Simpson 1hr-31m-12s, Ian Logan 1hr-34m-53s, and Lisa Atkinson 1hr-39m-55s, all running well with some PB’s along the way.

Our Young athletes have important Schools County X-country Championships throughout this week, (Northumberland & Durham) with the aim to be selected to run in the English Schools X-country Championships in March.

The North East Road Relay Championships(Signals Relays) are due to be run on the 17th February, we are looking to have a number of teams taking part both in the Male and Female Championships so make sure to submit your name to the appropriate people ASAP.
