It is with great sadness that we share the news of coach John Stephenson, who passed away yesterday following a short illness.
John started training with the Club as a young athlete, transitioning to coaching in his 20’s, and in 2021 celebrated his 75th birthday and over 60 years as a Gateshead Harrier.
John was a celebrated coach to generations of athletes and made a huge impact within the running community, receiving a lifetime achievement award from Gateshead Council in 2019.
For now, there is no better way to celebrate John than with his own words, which were published on his 75th Birthday…

Sending our love and best wishes to Pam and the family from all your friends at Gateshead and beyond.

John was one of the best coaches in the North of England.
He will be missed by everyone at Gateshead Harriers.
